about ...
PETRA Publishing Ltd is a unique organisation based in the Caerphilly Borough. We began our journey in 2014 when a group of Hengoed and Bargoed parents wrote two children’s books, one about bullying and one about anger management.
Now, almost ten years on, they’ve written more than ninety books and turned 1,500 children and adults into successful authors, and proud owners of their very own story book.

The journey continues as Petra is now working alongside education providers and offering schools and families a series of books around emotional wellbeing and topic areas that deal with issues as diverse as dementia and global warming.

Come with us and join us on an adventure as we go reading for pleasure and delve into wildfires, friendship and resilience. What makes a real superhero and what sparks an imagination? How can you set a story in a sewer? What does cynefin and a sense of belonging really mean?
All these topics and more are raised in the Petra stories and are easily referenced as learning points in the Welsh curriculum. Teachers can plan lessons using the Petra publishing book and resource guide.
If you want to be part of the Petra story there are opportunities to get involved. Maybe as a school you want to write and publish a book? Maybe you are desperate for topic books? Whatever your needs are we would love to work with you.

Moli was very different to the others, she knew it and they knew it too. She was the only cow who hoarded twigs and kept a collection of them by the old oak tree.
She loved lining them up and counting them. She could talk for hours about her twigs but she didn’t want any other cows to touch them. A touching story around autism.

When a big cat comes to live in their street three dogs have to make some big decisions. Should they help the cat because it is being poorly treated? Maybe not all heroes wear capes it might just be that some wear a collar and a lead!

The Elephant Who Forgot is a touchingly beautiful insight into dementia. I found this book to be so simple and perfect in it’s explanation of the disease and how it can be explained to our children. Accompanied by wonderful, fun illustrations and produced by a group of local parents, The Elephant Who Forgot is in my opinion a must read for everyone, parents included.
